Cr-appberry

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

So I’ve been installing apps on my Blackberry and getting a feel for what’s out there. So far, I’m disappointed.

First shot, the facebook app. Hype around the web called this one Blackberry’s big reach for the consumer market. Unfortunatly, the missed the grab.

While the app let’s you do a lot of regular facebook’s functions the interface is clunky and linear. It’s a pain to check mail messages and does not sync with your web based account. So if you log in on a computer after checking messages on your phone, don’t expect things to balance out. I was back on the browser pretty quick after installing this app.

Next up, Gmail. I don’t have much to say about this one yet (I just installed it this afternoon) but I do have 1 question.

Why is big G trying to access my phone book info? And why, when I refuse access, must it crash the whole application and erase the mail I was composing?

Given that I used nearly a quarter of my monthly bandwidth to download these two cr-apps, I’m left saying: I want my bandwidth back!

ATTENTION: Google Fanboys

I had half of a post written about this “leaked” Google video for the new guys, then I found this post that covered all my points and more. If you’re a Google Fanboi I suggest you read it.

If not, I’ll give you this to think on. Apparently Google reader is storing 10 terabytes of information from over 8 million feeds. Does big brother’s name start with a G? ;)

Rapids in the Clickstream - Not a morning person

I was looking for an inspiring background using the TPC method:

  1. Type keyword.
  2. Press ‘images’
  3. Choose Killer Background.

Where’s the images button?

Buttons? On the left?

That’s not how it works!

Dear Google,

I am an avid user of your service and now I’m skewing the A/B page test results by blogging instead of searching! The stream is drying up! the ads are getting cold! the design is no good!

oh wait…

Google stock is over $460/share.

This IS NOT a bubble people.

I’m going to go AJAX my mouth for speculating and lay down for a bit.
