OMG WTF’s w/ths TXT Slang

Friday, August 31st, 2007

My friend Goldburg says anything typed with thumbs probably isn’t that important.

I was doing some reading online today and found Juan Damia’s Blog. Though he usually focuses on research and analytics, a topic I’ve come to hold dear to my heart, he recently posted this list of text messaging slang.

A couple favorites I’ve never encountered and wouldn’t have understood:

A3 - Anytime, anyplace, anywhere
AAMOF - As a matter of fact
AFAIK - As far as I know
EOD - End of day
FWIW - For what it’s worth
FYEO - For your eyes only
IANAL - I am not a lawyer - Careful how u lead up to this 1 ;)
JAM - Just a minute
WRT - With respect to
YW - You’re welcome

I didn’t realize I was so out of the loop, I’ve been wasting my productivity time spelling words.

Farewell Choke - Rock ‘n Roll

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Sure I spend all day working online, feasting on the latest Yahoo purchase or Google gossip …Microsoft? hello? are ya gonna do something?

Anyways, I also moonlight as a sound guy (or sound technician if you want to get fancy about it). I did my time at Recording Arts Canada and have been lucky enough to find work filling in at the various venues Winnipeg offers up for bands to blast out rock ‘n roll.

I promised myself I would keep this blog on topic (internet, SEO, blah) but tonight I had the pleasure of working with Choke on their final Canadian tour. My history with this band goes all the way back to 11th grade when I listened to Needless to Say on headphones instead of paying attention in class.

They played a full set, complete with encore, and they didn’t shy away from the songs that brought them to where they are. The whole catalog was there.

They are not rock superstar’s, but they’re wicked brand of technical, at times spacey, “proto-punk” brought an enthusiasm to the venue that might (if I were them) make one rethink retiring the band.

Anyway…if you’re in Winnipeg and you weren’t there you missed out. If you’re between Winnipeg and Halifax go see them, they’re coming to your town and they’re gonna rock.

Hello World?!

So. Blog entry #1. This whole thing was inspired by the “Why you should blog” article over at SEOmoz. I got to thinking…”Why don’t I blog?” I should be be “building my brand” and establishing a written history of my online living.

A little Background

I’ve been on this internet thing since it was only text and have been developing sites for about 10 years. Currently I’m working as web developer at Manlab Resources in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. I’ve done flash development, video, audio recording, process development, graphic design and all kinds of other computer stuff.

I got a taste of big time e-commerce when the internet pharmacy wave washed over Canada a few years back. I worked with one of the larger online pharmacies for just over 2 years, which lead me into SEO/SEM/SERP world and got me worring about landings, clickthrough’s, funnels and all that other great stuff that comes with online marketing.

This blog aims to outline my personal interests within internet, technology and business and (hopefully) will open some discussion. You’ll notice I’m currently using the basic wordpress template, but that will be changing soon, just gotta get creative.
